Psalm 36:5 “Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies” (NIV).
Prejudice. Racism. Favoritism. Classism. Sexism. Let’s talk about all of these and the ugliness that results from these views.
When was the last time you experienced a prejudice against you?
Romans 2:11 says it plainly: “For God does not show favoritism.” God loves you as his child, regardless of your race, ethnicity, class, gender, and even history of sin. He loves males and females. He loves athletes and musicians. He loves little children and the old man resting on the bench at the bus stop. He loves book worms and failing students. He loves teen moms.
God does not discriminate. How does this make you feel?
Galatians 3:26-29 says, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
What do you think this means?
Where have you shown prejudice against others? Keep in mind that we can show prejudice based on things other than race. What about social class? Do you tend to look negatively at people “higher” or “lower” than you?
Read Romans 3:21-26.
Who on earth has been perfect?
Who on earth has sinned?
How are you different from them?
God has loved you unconditionally. He has had mercy on you and me and everyone else sitting around you. Consider today that all he asks is for you to turn and give that same mercy to someone else.
Who can you show love (mercy, etc.) to this week? (Hint: Try picking someone you haven’t shown love and mercy to in the past!). Where can you show unbiased love?
